Do you find yourself often looking back to the “good old days”? Where do you spend most or your time – in your past, in your present, or in your future?
Well, today let’s take a trip down memory lane and look into the past, to when you were the happiest. Spend some time reviewing those memories, and answer the following questions. Take some time, and really journal…don’t just breeze through them. I think if you take your time on this, it will be rather enlightening.
So when you look back at when you were the happiest…
What were you doing?
Where were you?
Who were you with?
What exactly made you so happy?
Why were you so happy?
What were you focusing on?
Try doing this exercise with three or four of your favorite memories of the past. Answer the same questions for each time period/memory.
After you have answered the questions for each time period, look at the answers. Are there any patterns? Maybe you were really happy because you were with your family. Or because you had no stress. Or because you were living somewhere you really liked. Or you were doing a job you really enjoyed.
Use this exercise to see what truly made you happy. Then look at today. Is what made you so happy still part of your life today? If it made you so happy in the past, is there a way to bring it back into your life today?
This is really not as easy to do as you would think. It takes some real soul searching. After you’ve worked on it, let us know your thoughts!
